Florence was a beautiful, intelligent, loving and caring woman who did so much for so many. I looked up to her nearly my entire American Legion Auxiliary life. She was so "pressed" and lovely every time I saw her. She raised a great family and I know they will miss her dearly. Be strong Long Family - she is in a better place. We will miss you Florence as we do our best to make your proud.

Love and hugs,

Tammy Wright

Florence was a classy lady! Meeting Florence and Glenwood through Eastern Star was a such a special time in my life. As I prepared to assume the state leadership of Eastern Star in 2001 it was my pleasure to ask Florence to serve as Grand Electa. The "Sunbeams", as we were known at that time, were an awesome group of sisters and brothers.

Know in my heart that Florence has joined Glenwood in heaven and are now free from the health shackles of this world. Our lives have been blessed just by knowing them.

Your mother was a wonderful lady always willing to go the extra mile in her teaching and building friendships. May the Lord give you peace and comfort during this time.

Mrs. Long was my kindergarten teacher in Donnellson in the 70s. She took care of me and taught me a lot of important things at the beginning of my education. A few years ago I had the privilege of paying her back by being her nurse at River Hills. Even 35 years later she was that same sweet woman and I will never forget my first teacher!!!

When I heard of Florence's death, so many warm and, yes, sometimes funny memories rushed into my mind. These memories came from the American Legion Auxiliary, its Department of Iowa, Iowa's First District, and of course Iowa Girls State.

What I saw through the years that Florence and I were both involved with the ALA -- what I saw in all the speeches she gave, in her amusing stories when she visited the staff lounge at Girls State, and in all

I am so sorry to hear of Florence's passing. I had the opportunity to serve with Florence for many years on the Iowa Girls State Staff. I have many treasured memories of Florence during that time. She was always so good to the girls there and made the program so much fun for both them and the Girls State Staff. I have no doubt she made an impact on both the lives of the children and families she worked with
