Don I. Stukerjurgen, 74, of rural Salem, died Sunday, December 7, 2014 at 8:00 a.m. at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City after a short illness.

He was born February 1, 1940 in the home that he has lived in his entire life. His parents were Ben and Cecelia (Moeller) Stukerjurgen.

Don was a graduate of St. John's High School and a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Houghton, Iowa. He served in the Iowa National Guard. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Houghton, the Farm Bureau, Iowa Pork Producers, Iowa Soybean Association and Mississippi Valley Farm Business Association. He loved to go to car races, tractor pulls and play Euchre. He also loved to bowl with his buddies until his later years.

He is survived by his siblings and their spouses: Thelma (Sylvester) Kruse of Hillsboro, Iowa, Ron (Carol) Stukerjurgen of Houghton, Iowa, Justine (Ray) Conrad of Tempe, Arizona, Agatha Rudy of Solon, Iowa, Leroy (Carrol) Stukerjurgen of Sun City, Arizona, Lucy Damhorst of East Moline, Illinois and sister-in-law Agnes Stukerjurgen of Salem, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Omer Stukerjurgen, brothers-in-law Larry Rudy and Roger Damhorst. His dog Buck died three days prior to his passing.

Friends may call after 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Houghton where the family will meet with friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. that evening. A Knights of Columbus rosary will be recited at 3:00 p.m. and a Christian Wake service will be held at 7:00 p.m. that evening.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Houghton with Father Bruce DeRammelaere as Celebrant. Burial will be at St. John's Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in his memory to St. John's Catholic Church in Houghton or the Houghton Knights of Columbus.
