Florence L. Swinderman, 94, of Sunnybrook Assisted Living in Fort Madison, formerly of Donnellson, passed away at 3:11 p.m. Sunday, December 20, 2015 at Sunnybrook.

Born May 18, 1921 the daughter of John Henry and Emma Jane (Earl) Freese in San Jose, Illinois. On April 12, 1942 she married Wilbur S. Swinderman in Palmyra, Missouri. He preceded her in death on May 31, 1997.

Survivors include her one son; Daniel Swinderman of Aledo, Illinois, two daughters; Cindy Swinderman of Fort Madison, Iowa and Carol (Walter) Gaspard of Magnolia, Texas, three grandsons; Keegan Sheets, Cameron (Beth) Sheets and Nicholas Gaspard, one great granddaughter; Penelope Sheets and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wilbur, one son Robert, one great grandson; Noah Sheets and one brother; John Freese.

Florence was a member of the Donnellson United Methodist Church. She served as a mailman with the WAVES in the United States Navy during World War II. In her earlier years she worked as a bookkeeper at the Sheaffer Pen Company.

Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at the Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home in Donnellson, Iowa where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. that evening.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at the Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home in Donnellson, Iowa with Pastor Peg Ellingson officiating.

Burial will be at the Charleston Cemetery in rural Charleston, Iowa.

A memorial has been established in her memory to the Charleston Cemetery Association.
