Gerald Thomas Fedler, 67, of West Point, passed away at 4:45 p.m. Saturday, December 12, 2015 at his home.

Born November 11, 1948 the son of Carl Gustav and Mary Louise (Menke) Fedler. On June 1, 1968 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fort Madison he married Carol Ann Hall.

Those left to honor his memory are his wife Carol. Two sons: Jason (wife Michelle) Fedler of Kernersville, North Carolina, Marcus (wife Heather) Fedler of Ainsworth, Iowa. One daughter Angie (husband Allen) Alcorn of Waterloo, Iowa. Four grandsons: Garrett Fedler, Grayson Fedler, Dylan Alcorn and Jesse Alcorn. Two sisters: Nadine Fedler-Cuccia, Jr. of Sacramento, California, Mary Rose Fedler of Fort Madison, Iowa. One brother Denie Fedler of Arizona. Sisters-in-law: Carole Devenney of Niles, Michigan, Sandy Fedler of Tipton, Iowa, Carleen Fedler-Mayer and Susan Fedler-Becker both of Fort Madison, Iowa, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers: Michael, Danny Joe and Melvin.

He was a member of Saint Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in West Point. He served his carpenter apprenticeship with Carpenters Union #440. He was a carpenter, state certified welder…his own mechanic, plumber and electrician. He took second place out of sixteen in the Carpenters Union Competition in Sioux City, Iowa. Jerry loved his family above all, his close friends and attending his grandson's sporting and school activities. He farmed all of his life, eventually buying his father's farm. Jerry loved all animals, including his cows, dog Sadie and cat Lucky. He enjoyed target practice, Harley riding, traveling in the United States, carpentry, welding, watching westerns and sports, and napping in his recliner.

Friends may call after 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at the Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home in West Point where there will be a parish rosary recited at 3:00 p.m. The family will meet with friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

A celebration of his life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 17, 2015 at Saint Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in West Point with Fr. Dennis Hoffman as Celebrant. 

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in West Point.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the West Point Fire and Rescue or the Great River Honor Flight.
