Jeanne A. Steffensmeier, 50, of West Point, passed away at 10:30 p.m. Friday, January 15, 2016 at her home after a courageous battle against cancer.

Born October 27, 1965 at Fort Madison, Iowa the daughter of Gene and Alvera (Hellweg) Merschman. On May 27, 1995 in West Point, Iowa she married David Steffensmeier.

Survivors include her husband: David of West Point, three daughters: Kara (Jeff Allen) Tweedy of Waterloo, Iowa, Morgan (Jason Gonzalez) Steffensmeier of Carpentersville, Illinois and Holly (Jonathon Thompson) Steffensmeier of Santa Barbara, California, one son: Adam (Courtney Hill) Steffensmeier of Ankeny, Iowa, parents: Gene and Alvera Merschman of St Paul, Iowa, one sister: Jan (Tim) Steffensmeier of West Point, Iowa, three brothers: Larry (Laura) Merschman, Kevin (Jill) Merschman and Brian (Reva) Merschman all of Saint Paul, Iowa. Also surviving is her father-in-law: Vernon Steffensmeier of West Point, brother-in-law: Mike Steffensmeier of Atlanta, Georgia and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents: Leonard and Mary Merschman, Alois and Marie Hellweg, her mother-in-law: Phyllis Steffensmeier, one great nephew and several cousins.

Jeanne was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in West Point, the Altar and Rosary Society of the church. She volunteered with the Marquette Organized Boosters, Served on the Holy Trinity Athletic Board and was a Girl Scout Leader. She was a 1984 graduate of Marquette High School and the Institute of Cosmetology Arts. She was a part owner and a stylist at Hair Etc. in West Point for nearly thirty years. Jeanne enjoyed show choir, crafts, etching mirrors, and singing at weddings. She especially enjoyed time spent with family and friends.

Friends may call after 12 noon on Monday, January 18, 2016 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in West Point where the family will receive friends from 3:30 to 7:00 p.m. There will be a Parish Rosary recited at 4:00 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service at 7:00 p.m.

The Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in West Point with Fr. Dennis Hoffman as Celebrant.

Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in West Point.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Holy Trinity Show Choir, Central Lee Show Choir or the Holy Trinity Boy's Basketball Program.
