John Edward Hopp, 56, of rural Donnellson, Iowa passed away at 9:00 a.m. Monday, March 2, 2015 at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa.
 
Born June 29, 1958 in Keokuk, Iowa the son of William Wayne and Betty Ann (Schoch) Hopp. On February 14, 2009 he married Tammy Miller at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife Tammy of Donnellson, two daughters Alycia Hopp and Andrea Hopp of Donnellson, one step-daughter Jenilea (James) Phillips of Letts, Iowa, two brothers Bruce (Jill) Hopp of Donnellson, Doug (Melissa) Hopp of Donnellson, one sister Marsha (Walter) Eid of Fort Madison, mother-in-law Shirley Miller of Fairfield, one brother-in-law Les (Phyllis) Miller of Goodyear, Arizona, five step-granddaughters and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

John was a graduate of Central Lee High School. He worked as a corrections officer at the Iowa State Penitentiary for thirty two years before retiring. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Donnellson, the NRA and the Wap-Don Canoe Crew. John enjoyed hunting, canoeing, watching TV (especially NASCAR) and helping on the family farm. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye football fan and he especially enjoyed spending time with his wife, daughters, step-grandchildren, family and dogs (Oz, Zoey & Eleanor).

Friends may call after 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 5, 2015 at the Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home in Donnellson where the family will meet with friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. that evening.

A funeral service will be held Friday, March 6, 2015 at the St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Donnellson at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Dean Moberg officiating.

Burial will be at the Charleston Cemetery in rural Charleston.

Memorials may be made in his memory to the PAW Animal Shelter in Fort Madison.
