LeRoy Henry Steffensmeier, 87, of rural Fort Madison, Iowa, passed away at 7:42 a.m., Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at the Fort Madison Community Hospital.

Born April 17, 1927 in rural West Point, Iowa the son of William Steven and Christina (Pomberg) Steffensmeier. On June 25, 1953 he married Rosanna Sanders at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Houghton, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife Rosanna, five sons Bill Steffensmeier of Fort Madison, Bob Steffensmeier of Fort Madison, Joe (Kathy) Steffensmeier of West Point, Pat (Peggy) Steffensmeier of West Point and Tom (Carla) Steffensmeier of West Point, four daughters MaryLee Burgason of Cedar Rapids, Sue (Joe) Butler of Burlington, Joan (Bob) Conley of Madison, Wisconsin and Jean (Brad) Schulte of Fort Madison, twenty seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, one sister Mrs. Cecil (Luella) Menke and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, one son-in-law, one brother and three sisters.

LeRoy was a graduate of St. Mary's High School. He was was an Army veteran having served during the Korean War. He was a life long farmer and raised hogs in the rural Fort Madison area. LeRoy was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in West Point and the West Point American Legion Holtz-Geers Post #668. He enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his grandchildren.

Friends may call after 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 23, 2015 at the Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home in West Point, Iowa. Where the family will meet with friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. that evening. There will be a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 3:00 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service at 7:00 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 24, 2015 at St. Mary's of the Assumption Catholic Church in West Point with Father Dennis Hoffman as Celebrant. Burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery in West Point with full military rites presented by the West Point American Legion.

Memorials may be made in his memory to St. Mary's Catholic Church or Holy Trinity Catholic Schools.
