Martin Donald "Marty" Hellweg, 52, of rural West Point, Iowa passed away at 7:45 p.m. Thursday, November 19, 2015 at the Fort Madison Community Hospital in Fort Madison, Iowa of Amyloidosis (a rare blood disease).

Born on April 8, 1963 in Fort Madison, Iowa the son of Donald and Jean (Rauenbuehler) Hellweg. On April 17, 2004 he married Janet (Gabel) Knight in Fort Madison, Iowa

Survivors include his wife; Janet, step son; Justin Knight, two brothers; Rick (Deb) Hellweg and Larry (Rita) Hellweg, two sisters; Donna (Terry) Simmons and Lisa (Greg) Whitmore; one brother-in-law; Jay Wilson; mother-in-law and father-in-law; Everett and Alice Gabel, sister-in-law; Barb (Flavian) Boeding, five nieces and nephews; Dawn Lehr, James Wilson, Rachel Thomas, Alisha Whitmore and Ethan Hellweg and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister; Dixie Wilson.

Marty graduated from Fort Madison High School and truck driving school. After school he worked as an over the road truck driver, then worked for Chem Gro, Steffensmeier Welding, Holtkamp Trucking and Agrineed. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, gardening and his family and friends. Most of All Marty loved visiting with others and was known to be a "social butterfly".

Friends may call after 12 noon, Sunday November 22, 2015 at the Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home in West Point, Iowa. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. that evening at the funeral home.

Following visitation his body will be cremated.

A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 23, 2015 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in West Point with father Dennis Hoffman as celebrant.

Burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery in West Point.

Memorials may be made in his memory to the West Point Fire and Rescue or the West Point Fireworks Committee.
