Alan C. Bennett, 80, of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, passed away at 8:01 p.m. Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born August 18, 1935 in Bonaparte, Iowa the son of Howard and Selma (Yeager) Bennett. On October 2, 1954 he married Marilyn Rudd in Montrose, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife; Marilyn of Mt. Pleasant, two sons; Michael (Linda) Bennett of Donnellson and Steven Bennett of North Richland Hills, Texas, six grandchildren; Lucas, Nathan, Sheena, Ashley, Elizabeth and Shelby, seven great grandchildren, one brother; Dennis Bennett of Texas and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother; Robert.

Alan was a graduate of Montrose High School. He served in the Air Force from 1955 to 1961. During that time he was stationed in the Azore Islands where his first son was born, he then was stationed in Vallejo, California where his second son was born. When he was discharged from the service, Alan came back to Iowa to work at Ortho Chemical Company in Fort Madison. His work history included helping his sons in a heating and air conditioning business while working at First Miss Corporation until First Miss closed. In 1998 he retired from Central Lee Schools where he was employed as Supervisor of Building & Grounds and Director of Transportation for eighteen years.

Alan's roots were in Montrose, Iowa where he was a member of the Montrose Presbyterian Church and a member of the Joppa Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. #136. He served on the Montrose Fire Department and the Montrose City Council. Alan had many hobbies: Reading, genealogy, traveling, framing pictures and enjoying his grandchildren. He enjoyed working with wood and built his own house with the assistance of Hunold Construction in 1974.

Friends may call after 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 11, 2015 at the Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home in Donnellson, Iowa where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. that evening. A Masonic service will be held at the funeral home at 6:30 p.m. by the Joppa Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. #136.

A funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 12, 2015 at the Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home in Donnellson, Iowa with Pastor Dean Moberg officiating.

Burial will be at the Montrose Cemetery, Montrose, Iowa.

A memorial has been established in his memory for to the Montrose Riverfront Incorporated.
