Maxine C. Hoenig, 88, of Fairfield, Iowa, formerly of Keosauqua and Bonaparte passed away at 5:00 a.m., Wednesday April 25, 2012 at Sunnybrook Living Care Center.

Born February 8, 1924 in Rockford, Iowa, the the daughter of Arthur and Edith (Bartlett) Winfield. On June 17, 1950 she married Frank H. Hoenig at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in West Point, Iowa. He preceded her in death on February 25, 2008.

Survivors include one daughter Yvonne (Wade Troutman) Hoenig of Bonaparte, one special daughter Elizabeth "Libby" Kuster of Bonaparte, Iowa, one grandaughter Katy Fritzjunker of Bonaparte, Iowa, one grandson Eric Kuster of Bonaparte, Iowa, seven step-grandchildren Daniel Fritzjunker, Courtney, Rachel, Kathlene, Spencer and Cheyenne Troutman and Shelby Curtis, ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Frank, one nephew Jimmy Hoenig, one sister Betty Cullen and one Brother Robert Winfield.

Maxine was a 1941 graduate of Bowen High School. She had worked as a nanny for Colonel and Mrs. Bass during WWII. She also worked as a kindergarten teacher's aide at the Bonaparte Elementary School, at Sheaffer Pen Company in Fort Madison, Iowa and at the Houghton and Hillsboro Post Offices. Maxine was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, the Hillsboro American Legion Auxiliary, the Alpha Club of Hillsboro and the Altar and Rosary Society at St. Boniface. She enjoyed watching baseball, baking cakes and pies and reading. Maxine was also an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

Per her wishes, a graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2012 at the Hillsboro Cemetery with Father Stephen Page officiating. There will be no visitation.

A memorial has been established in her memory for the Bonaparte Library. Memorials can be mailed to Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home, P.O. Box 56, Donnellson, Iowa 52625.
